10'6" SUP from Timeless Surf Co

This board started out as my first Hollow Wooden Surfboard. I bought the plans & template from Timeless Surf Company. There where plenty of hurdles and lots of lessons learnt.

The early days of my 'Dude Room' - pretty bare and basic.

Went a little over kill with 12mm thick marine ply stringer.

Ribs where cut out from 4mm marine ply.

Shelly's Liquid Nail Platinum is very good alternative to the foaming polyurethane glues. It works really well for any constructing type work.

Not easy to make the 6mm skins form to the rocker in the nose!

I bought a Gortex plug vent to help the board breath when exposed to heat; when I'm travelling to and from the beach.

My steaming invention. A steam cleaner hooked up to a PVC pipe. It worked sort of.

Timeless Surf Company invented these tri-rails. Great idea and are quicker then bead and cove rails..

I bought a bolt from an automotive store and drilled a hole through the center to vent the board while in commute to and from the beach. It's very industrial but will work OK.

It's coming together - starting to see some progress.

I visited the chaps down at Shapers on the Gold Coast who put me onto using Kinetix Epoxy by ATL. Very good alternative to the norm like West Systems or Resin Research.

 Cheater coat applied.

Lamination coat went on well. Had some trouble wrapping the rails but came together in the end.

Bit of a side project - making a paddle for the SUP out of a little bit of Paulownia, Western Red Cedar and recycled hardwood from an Queensland restoration.

No real refinement with the paddle. I'll be trying the Bird Mouth method next time to make a hollow shaft.

Router jig setup for the fin box.

Soooo... things haven't gone so well with this project. I did a dry run structure test. I stood on the deck and heard a crack, on inspection I noticed the fiberglass had delaminated. Thinking back to when I layed down the glass it was a rainy day. There must have been a high % of humidity in the air and the fiberglass didn't bond to the sealer coat. Another issue is the timber decking wasn't supported enough to take a decent amount of weight. The ribs are spaced 20cm (8").

To be continued...
